13th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year B - 1/7/2012 - Gospel: Mk 5:21-43
Faith gives Life
People followed Jesus for various reasons.

Some followed him because his teaching was new and he taught with authority. Others followed him because they wanted to see miracles and enjoyed free meals.

Others followed Jesus because they strongly believed that Jesus was a life giver.  This is the story of the synagogue ruler, Jairus, who, on his knees, begged Jesus to bring his daughter back to life.

His servants told Jairus…
Your daughter is dead; why put the Master to any further trouble? v35

Jesus told Jairus….
Do not be afraid, only have faith. v36

On the way to Jairus' home there was a woman suffering from a haemorrhage who believed that…
If I can touch even his clothes...I shall be well again. v29

Jesus told her…..
Your faith has restored you to health. v34

Jesus made no distinction between classes of people.  Those who had faith in Jesus received God's love and life.  Through his healing power Jesus led Jairus and the woman to a deeper faith in Him.

To Jairus…
Do not be afraid, only have faith.
To the woman
Your faith has restored you to health.

We pray to have a deeper faith in Jesus, especially in times of trouble.
